Who is behind Brewgooder?
Introducing the guys who brought you Social Bite… and George Clooney
Brewgooder is founded on the desire to transform the world through the power of beer. With the help of our backers, Brewgooder will help lift hundreds of thousands of people out of poverty – not as a gimmick or some corporate social responsibility exercise, but as something we passionately believe in: helping people around the world get safe and easy access to clean water.
Brewgooder was founded by Alan Mahon and Josh Littlejohn. These serial social entrepreneurs have previously started and run several social businesses and not-for-profit events across Scotland. One of their social businesses, Social Bite, is now a national chain of sandwich shops that employs 1 in 4 staff from a formerly homeless background and donates all profits to various charities both home and abroad.

In just four short years, Social Bite has grown into a large independent caterer and recognisable High Street name across Scotland, generating employment for 25 homeless people and feeding up to 150 homeless people a day across Scotland’s three largest cities.
In November 2015, Josh and Alan brought Hollywood Legend George Clooney to visit the very first Social Bite store in Edinburgh and launch the Social Bite Christmas campaign. The campaign ended up raising enough money to provide 73,000 meals for homeless people across Scotland plus warm clothing and tents for thousands of refugees in Greece and Calais.
Clooney kindly agreed to speak at Josh and Alan’s annual social event, the Scottish Business Awards, joining a long list of headline speakers including former US President Bill Clinton, Sir Richard Branson and Sir Bob Geldoff. These awards bring together over 2000 business leaders from across Scotland and the rest of the UK to raise money for charity. Since 2012, the event has raised £4m for local, national and international charities, breaking the Scottish dinner attendance record twice in the process.
Alan, Josh and the rest of the Brewgooder team passionately believe that socially minded business can transform the world. Now with our Clean Water lager, drinkers can finally help others by doing what they love – drinking great beer!
