OUR BEER WITH ARDBEG

OUR BEER WITH ARDBEG

Back in March, we launched our Global Gathering campaign that brought together (virtually or otherwise) over 250 drinksmakers. Many launched their beers online and through local networks, some are still being slowly released in recent weeks as restrictions ease here and there.

Our collaboration partners were by no means limited to just beermakers though! Among those involved in coming together in our fight against water poverty, were sodas, seltzers, shandies... and a single malt whisky? That's right! Renowned Islay distiller Ardbeg lended a hand (or barrel!) to our campaign following a chat with two flatmates...

Our founder Alan, lives with his pal, also Alan, who happens to be the Global Brand Manager at Ardbeg. With two tipple toilers under one roof, magic is bound to happen, right? In the early stages of our campaign, the seed was planted, and the idea of Ardbeg's peat being used in beer was born!

We joined forces with our good friends at Williams Bros. Brewing, who we entrusted with the brew and produced something beyond the wildest dreams of the two Alans! 'The Shortie' (named after the distiller's canine mascot) captures the distillery’s signature smoky character and combines it with notes of bitter dark chocolate, malty biscuit, dry espresso coffee and a hint of liquorice.

The cans were originally due to be released in March, however due to obvious reasons this had to be pushed back a little. The good news is that they're launching this Thursday 13th August! Available at Ardbeg.com and Ardbeg Embassies for £14 per 4-pack. Find your nearest embassy HERE

Brewer’s Tasting Notes for The Shortie:
ABV: 6.2%

Colour: Dark peat bog brown

Nose: On the nose, Ardbeg’s distinctive peat gives rise to more oily notes intermingled with sour cherries, rich coal tar and pine. Ardbeg’s malt then begins to reveal itself, with aromas of toasted nuts and sweet lemon and lime.

Taste: On the palate, this smoky porter boasts a typically creamy texture, with bitter dark chocolate, malty biscuit, dry espresso coffee and a hint of liquorice.

Finish: In a finish that lingers long beyond the can, delicious and distinctively smoky notes guide the palate towards the bitter end.
